Table Obi #570
For the big holidays I decorate the table and chairs with kimono obi. I like texture and movement on the table and obi can be folded, tied or caught into a bow, even. Unfortunately, they are hard to find; if vintage can be fragile; and usually come dear. So, I asked the very gifted rug weavers for rag table runners that would serve the same way but without the complications. The designs are sophisticated - early America meets Shogun.
Constructed of black tape and a black/red/white print, both of polyester, this is a very sophisticated design. The pattern is of gradually thinning stripes of the printed fabric from end to a middle block and then mirrored to the opposing end. The obi measures 12" x 70" allowing plenty of room to fold and knot. Machine wash and line dry. A laundry bag is recommended to protect the fringe from fraying and matting.
